Working on some still life images this morning.

For the last two years I have been documenting the steady progress of the Caldecott Tunnel 4th Bore Project from Orinda to Berkeley. So far my photos had only been used in small publications, media releases and short reports. But last week a select few of my photos got the big showcase that they have been waiting for. Nearly two dozen photos were used to show of the progress of the Caldecott 4th Bore to the California Transportation Commission. Above are just a few of the photos that were used. Its always nice to see my photos adorning the empty spaces of the Claremont conference room as hundreds of people view the my photos.

During a small localized power outage last night at my house I was hoping to get a time lapse of the night sky with less ambient light pollution. Unfortunately there was still enough light  pollution around to affect the image. If this ever happens again I want to try this from a higher vantage point to hopefully capture the power grid coming back up.

So the focal point is where the spider was when I started this project. Not that I understand spiders very well but I thought he would return to that same spot. Not so much…. Lesson learned, more depth of field, and possibly wider angle or a less energetic spider. For those of you wondering this is, 1.3hours crunched into 14 second timelapse. Shot with a D700 and a speed light.

As if assignments couldn’t get any different from each other.

I broke two jeeps, got thrown off a horse and broke a trailer hitch trying to get these photos.

Last week was a whirl wind of work, doing five different shoots all in one week. The week started out with doing a small fitness shoot for a local magazine and ended up with taking photos of potholes for a transportaion publication. I don’t think I could have imagined a stranger combination of assignments all in one week. The variety was fun and exciting though.

Maybe I can combine the fitness shots and pothole shots in a future assignement.
